Isaac Millman was born in France in 1933 and was a hidden child during the German occupation of France during the Second World War. Both his mother and father were deported to Auschwitz where they were killed.
He left for America in 1948, a teenager, when he was adopted by an American Jewish family in Brooklyn, NY. He graduated from the Pratt Institute in 1952 with a degree in fine arts and worked as senior art director for a large sales promotion agency. He is the author and illustrator of the four Moses books, the author and illustrator of “Hidden Child” and “Arbeit Macht Frei - Work Sets You Free,” as well as the illustrator of the Howie Bowles books by Kate Banks.
He lives with his wife in New York City. They have two sons and four grandsons.
